It is common knowledge that a white wedding gown is the “traditional” attire for a bride for their “white” wedding which most ladies look forward to wearing someday.
However, this was not always the case as from findings the colour white was once a colour of mourning in the 1700s and 1800s, strange right?
So most ladies then made use of the colour…take a guess…RED for their wedding gowns. Yes, Red. And some other colours aside from red. Also, the concept for a wedding gown back then was something they could easily wear again so sometime they adorn any of the best wears in their wardrobes.
The white wedding gown was made popular by Queen Victoria in her wedding ceremony to Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg in 1840 when she wore it and the media escalated thereby changing the narrative.
Then different meanings became attached to the colour such as purity, innocence and even virginity.
